What am I currently reading?

The last couple weeks have not been the easiest couple of weeks for me. So I haven’t done the reading that I wanted to accomplish, but img_5328

I am currently reading Caraval by Stephanie Garber. I started it yesterday, and I am so far in love. Scarlett just got to the Island, so I haven’t gotten to the meat of the story, but so far I find the characters interesting and the lore of the story is pretty cool. I’m excited to read the rest of it.  I have been looking forward to reading this since I started blogging and saw so many fellow bloggers raving about it. So far it’s living up to the hype. A review will be coming on a Monday in the near future.

I am also still listening to Lincoln by David Herbert Donald. I’ll have this finished by the end of the week, there are about 4 hours left. I plan on writing my long Thursday post on this book next week. I didn’t know all that much about the Civil War, being more into the history of Massachusetts’s involvement in the Revolution as my history obsession. I have found learning about Abraham Lincoln as a person very interesting. He seems like he would be a cool guy to hang out with, and may be the only other adult in American politics besides George Washinton.

I finished Untold over the weekend. This series is a different take on the classic Gothic stories with a YA twist. I have found that if I read the dialogue with a British accent in my head, it feels less odd and flows better. I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first one, but I still liked it. I will be reading the third book in this series soon, but I have a couple books I want to read for the blog first. I am interested to see what’s coming for Kami and her crew.

Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray was the Uppercase book for April, and because I had such a terrible reading month of May I haven’t gotten to it yet. It sounds really good. Goodreads seems to like it. So I am looking forward to it. From reading the blurb and the reviews it seems to be much more Sci-Fi than any books that I’ve read recently, so I am looking forward to that change from fantasy and magic and into something different.

For my next audiobook, I found the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes stories narrated by Stephen Fry. It’s, like, 60 hours but broken into the different stories at about 10 hours a piece. So I’m going to listen to A Study in Scarlet next week. I will put together a  review of the audio when I get through it in a couple weeks, but if there are things I know will be good it’s Sherlock Holmes and a Stephen Fry narrative.

And that’s where I am in my reading, what have you reading this week?

Until next time Internet,

Deanna

I recently started reading Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan. So far it’s interesting. I’m not too far into it yet, but I am enjoying how different it is. There are elements of paranormal romance, contemporary, and a little science fiction.  There is a girl with a psychic connection to a stranger who she has always felt was a sort of imaginary friend, but now she’s met him in real life. That’s as far as I’ve been in the story. I’m interested to see where it’s going.

To be honestly, I haven’t actually started listening to this Lincoln biography, partly because it’s 30 hours long and thinking about how long 30 hours is freaking me out a little, since I’ve been listening to books that were about 10 to 15 hours long, but in reality it’s just over two weeks of driving to work, so I need to suck it up and start it.

Semi-related, did you know Blondie has a new song? It’s quite good.

What did I just finish reading?

I finished up The Infinite Moment of Us by Lauren Myracle over the weekend. I’ll be posting a review of it tomorrow. I have mixed feelings about it. It was a good book, but I feel that there were things that could have been done very differently. Well, I’ll get into all that in tomorrow’s post. Overall it was a decent book.

What will I be reading next?

I have some ambitious plans for the month of May. One of the book challenges in a reading group I’m in on Goodreads is to read as many books with one-word titles as possible. Since Unspoken and its sequels have been on my bookshelf for an embarrassingly long time, I’ve decided to start there. I feel as if The Lynburn Legacy books will be quick reads. Up next will be Untold.

According to Goodreads, I am currently 39.06% of the way through Hunted by Meagan Spooner. I am loving it. I hope to finish it up over the weekend, if that happens, I will be writing up an in-depth review on Monday, but I love the intertwining of the different versions of Beauty and the Beast.

I am about half way through the audiobook of Wuthering Heights. So, this book is much more ridiculous that Jane Eyre and I find most of the chacacters barely tolerable. I plan to write a longer post about this next week after I finish it. I do understand why this is Bella Swan’s favorite book in Twilight. That girl has a love for angsty romance, and I think this clearly falls into that.

What did I recently finish reading?

12924279

I finsihed reading Thumped over the weekend. This is the second book in a 2 part series. I really love Megan McCafferty’s writing and enjoyed this book. I have a long post coming up tomorrow about this series. It raises questions about society and fame and all sorts of other things.

What do I plan on reading next?

Up next is The Infinte Moment of Us by Lauren Myracle. I have read a couple different things by Lauren Myracle and I’m looking forward to reading something else by her. The reviews on GoodReads are quite polarizing. People either loved it or hated it. We shall see. I like her writing and I hope this this will a fun read.

For an audiobook, I still leaning toward one of the backlog of politcal biographies. I think I’m going to start with Abraham Lincoln. We shall see. I may change my mind by next week.

So what are you reading? Have you read any of these books? What did you think?

Right now I’m  about 1/3 of the way through By Your Side by Kaise West and so far so good. I like it, but I’m a very confused about how Autumn can’t unlock the door. I mean, all you have to do is turn a knob to unlock the door. Are they no emergency exits? If they’re aren’t this library is not up to code and needs to be closed down. This plot hole is bothering me, and I will discuss it during my review which should be up Monday. I do love the characters and I am willing to ignore that this building is not up to code for love.

I will also be starting Wuthering Heights on the drive home. We shall see how it goes. I have heard it’s weird.

What I have Recently Finished Reading?

13206760

I just finished Scarlet by Marissa Meyer. I didn’t like it as much as Cinder, but I am excited to read the rest of the series. There are so many books on my TBR that I wanted to read a few that I can review.

11305364.jpg

I finished listening to an Area 51 “uncensored history.” I was mostly about the different military spy airplanes and missions that were developed there. There was a little bit about the Roswell Incident and the Area’s involvement in a cover up. I really enjoyed it. My favorite part was when Buzz Aldrin punched a man in the face for calling him a coward. It was a fun car listen.

What am I Reading Next?

12924279

I am going to read this book. I promise. I swear to myself that I will read it. I really enjoyed the first one and love Megan McCafferty’s other books so I know I will like it, but other books keep popping up. This is next through.

It’s about a future where people that we would consider childbearing age can’t get pregnant, so teenagers are surrogates. It’s a great story. I will be writing a post of the series when I finish it up.

As for audiobooks, when I’m finished with Wuthering Heights, I think I’m heading back to policial biographies. I haven’t listened to one since Hamilton and I think it’s time.

What about you? What are you reading?

I am currently 17 pages into Scarlet by Marissa Meyer. If it’s 1/3 as interesting and fun and gripping as the first one, it will be a very quick read and solid 5-star review.

I am still listening to Jane Eyre on Audiobook. I got distracted listening to podcasts, and I had to start it over because I forgot what was happening, but I’m making solid progress now. I like it; I just have to pay more attention to it that I do with most of the books I listen to because it’s not a history book and I have to follow the plot.

What did you recently finish reading?

I am from the North East, and we had a enormous snow storm yesterday, so I read Cinder yesterday. What a great book. I bought this book when it came out in paperback in 2012 or 2013, and I didn’t read it until yesterday. I don’t know why I was so weary about it. It was great through. I’m not sure if I’m going to do a review on this book or the series as a whole when I finish it.

There are a few other books that I have finished, including I Was Here by Gayle Forman. A review is forthcoming.

What do you think you’ll read next?

12924279

I read the first book in this series a while back, and I found Thumped on my shelf while I was cleaning it out, so this is up next. I remember really enjoying the first one, and I really loved Megan McCafferty’s Jessica Darling series.

38447

My next audiobook will be Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. There’s a Hulu show (I think) based on this book, and it looks pretty cool, and since I don’t have Hulu, I’m going to listen to the book.

Frost Blood was the January novel from Uppercase YA book subscription, at the time I am writing this, I’m on chapter 5, and I really like it. It’s a fantasy novel with an interesting premise. I will review it when I finish it up, but if it continues they way it’s going, it should be an excellent book.

I am currently listing to Jane Eyre. I have never read any of the classic stories besides some required reading in high school, so this has been an interesting listen. I understand why it’s held up over time.

WHAT HAVE YOU JUST FINISHED READING?

22465597

I just finished reading Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver, I have a review of that coming up later this week, so check back to see how I felt about that.

23705512

I finished listening to Felicia Day’s memoir, which I will be writing about next week I think. Felicia isn’t that much older than I am and we have a similar relationship with the internet and fandom, although her’s is much more in-depth and interesting (and she made a career of it). It was a very good book. It was a very cool look at the world through the internet age lens and what someone raised in this information and gaming world  and how that affected their “adult life.”

WHAT DO YOU PLAN ON READING NEXT?

For my audiobook, I have a backlog of biographies. I think I’ll be listening to Abraham Lincoln because I have a bunch of Revolutionary War era people sitting in the queue and I think it would be best for my life if I stepped away from the 1790’s. George Washington is going to have to wait a little bit.

11235712For a physical book, I leaning toward Cinder, which I bought in 2012 and have never read. So I think I should hope on this train as it left the station a while ago.

That does depend on what Uppercase sends me as I should be getting that book right around the time that I finish up Frost Blood. But we’ll see.

WWW Wednesday

In the last couple weeks of observing I’ve seen a few different memes that I want to start doing. So I think after this week I’m going to move my regular blogging post like the one I posted earlier today to a different day. We’ll see. Everything will figure itself out eventually.

So here we go!

WWW Wednesday is a meme currently hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. It’s very simple – answer the three questions and leave a link in Sam’s post.

The Three Ws are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING

16130I am currently reading two books. I listen to an audio book while I’m at work, usually a non-fiction history book or a memoir. Currently, I five hours left in Ron Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton.

I plan to write a longer post about this book at some point, and my inability to casually like things. I do highly recommend this book if you are interested in history. It’s one of the best biographies I’ve read/listened to. It’s funny at points and doesn’t pull back to sugar coat things.

28114396

I am also reading Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerill

I plan for my Monday book review to be about this book next week. So if you are interested in hearing what I think about this book, check back for that.

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING

15745753

The last book I finished was a book that had been sitting my TBR pile since it was released.

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. I have no idea why I waited so long to read it. It was just a great story of first love and being an outcast and families. It’s just wonderful. I’m a sucker for a good love story and this is just great.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL BE READING NEXT

23272028

For the physical book, I think my next endeavor will be going to the A Study in Charolett by Brittany Cavallaro.

I’ve heard so many great things about this book and I’m a big fan of Sherlock Holmes, so I’m hoping for a fun read.

549466As for my next listening book, I think I’m going to stick in the turn of the 19th century and listen to A Magnificent Catastrophe: The Tumultuous Election of 1800, America’s First Presidential Campaign by Edward J Larson.

After living through a dirty awful Presidential campaign, I have decided to torture myself by listening to the detail of one that was possibly worse. I’m super fascinated by this kind of history and after meeting all the “characters” in the course of the Hamilton biography I’m very interested to hear about details of what I can only call “this nonsense.”

What have you been reading?
