Another new month has crept up on us and somehow it’s June. 2020 has been the weirdest year I’ve ever lived though. Time is both too fast and incredibly slow, but either way 2020 is almost halfway over and I guess we can be thankful for that.
And, or course for the Calendar Girls! This month our theme is Drive-In Movie Day: Favorite Book Adaptation.
I admit, I am not the biggest fan of movie adaptations. I purposefully don’t watch movies based on books I’ve liked because I know I’ll be disappointed. However there is a movie adaptation that I think is better than the story, and it’s the only Stephen King story I have ever read– and to be fair I have only read part of it, however the Internet assures me I am correct about my assumption that the movie is the greater work.
The Shawshank Redemption, based on the short story, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption by the above mentioned Stephen King.
This is a very good movie and I love it with my whole heart. It’s 25 years old now, but think it holds up pretty well. There was pieces that are universal– injustice, wrongful convection, how terrible the prison system is. It’s just a solid movie.
I am pretty excited to see what the rest of the group picks. Please check out the other Calendar Girls posts for your movie recommendations.
